The second middle school for Red Oak ISD, being constructed off Westmoreland Road, is progressing quickly. Over 77,000 cubic feet of concrete have been poured for the foundation slab. Steel beams are being erected in most sections (approx. 72% complete) which is on track to complete installation by the end of October. The entire project is approximately 27% completed and on track and under budget for completion in December 2025.

The School Board approved the facility naming on September 16 following a recommendation by the Naming Committee. The school will be named the Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School after a ROHS alum, longtime District educator, and former Board Member who passed in 2022.

Next, the District will review zoning for the campus with an overview of the five elementary schools, current ROMS capacity, and projected growth models. Campus staffing is also beginning for the spring of 2025 beginning with existing ROMS staff options and then filling vacancies. Both Red Oak MS and Shaw MS will be housed at the current facility beginning August 2025, then split into the two facilities between semesters when construction is completed.
