  • Growth projections at the elementary level and overcrowding at the high school, plus offering more student opportunities, especially in career & technical education (career training). We are also addressing some aging facilities and creating space for growth in athletics.

  • There will not be a tax rate increase – even if all three propositions pass. We have a bonding capacity with the current I&S tax rate for up to $215M more in bonds without increasing the rate. That $215M includes if all $97.5M is used for Shaw MS; only $80M have been sold so far.

  • The amount due in taxes has two components – the tax rate (set by ISD, county, etc.) and the appraised value of your home (set by county appraisal office). While we have lowered the tax rate each of the past six years, the home appraisals in the area continue to increase.

  • That building is already mostly Red Oak Middle School classes (ROMS) until Shaw MS opens. When that takes place in January 2026, Red Oak MS will continue using the classroom spaces and we will convert the West Campus at Red Oak MS (old Wooden ES) into a District space for alternative placement students, staff meeting space, and other uses.

The CTE space behind ROMS does include high school classes in automotive, construction tech, and cosmetology. Auto and construction will be used by maintenance and operations staff to maintain the white fleet (District trucks, SUVs) and millwork (woodworking) projects including cabinets, doors, etc. which saves the District money.

  • We spend approximately $1,000 per day in labor, fuel, and expenses related to maintenance which equates to almost $165,000 per year based on the 165 days of school.

But the bigger cost is lost instructional time – with student walking and bus travel time using about 12 minutes per class transition. Double-blocked classes can still be managed because they work through the next transition time, so we limit what classes take place at the current CTE building behind ROMS.

  • No, we do not. Those are costly to prepare and because of the multiple projects, we will wait until after the bond election to complete site work and architectural renderings. If the bonds are approved, we will add to the bond website www.roisdbond.com with tabs for all approved projects and update progress as we have done for Shaw MS.

  • This would have been a temporary fix instead of building a new middle school. Parents were not in favor of placing older grades with younger students (down to age 3 with ECSE programs). The addition of 16 classes would be space for about 350 students. A new elementary school provides space for 650 students.

  • The current build – Dr. Joy Shaw Middle School – will have a storm shelter. In addition, should Proposition A pass, the new elementary school will also have a shelter. Shelters are required in new schools built. The CTE addition, ROHS gym addition, sub-varsity athletic venue, and renovations to Goodloe will not require a shelter.

  • The CTE Building will be located beyond the student parking lots – near TSTC, where students currently walk for a couple of classes. Staff and security monitor passing periods in the hallways and between buildings.

  • Texas HS stadiums typically need 45-60 acres depending on parking, locker rooms, etc. That would be a massive land purchase in addition to the $125-$150M needed to construct a new complex with parking, sewer, water, infrastructure, and the actual field, track, bleachers, etc. This may be a possibility if Red Oak ISD ever has a second high school. At this time, we feel it is more prudent to update the existing complex since the infrastructure is in place plus the field and track have been recently updated.

  • Goodloe was constructed in 1976 when the high school was built (what is now the middle school). It included seating for 3,000 and the original locker room. Add-ons include more seating (seats 6,000), an expanded press box, a visitor locker room, concessions, restrooms, and a fieldhouse. In-house we have created stadium access with an ADA entrance, added handicapped parking spots, and leveled the field and track by eliminating the previous curb. If an ADA complaint is made, a federal judge could close the complex until ADA issues are rectified.

  • Yes, two bond community forums were held on Feb. 4 and Feb. 6. and eight Bond Talk virtual gatherings are scheduled. Mrs. Sanford is also available to meet with civic groups, homeowners associations, clubs, groups, or individuals. We will also have information at multiple campus functions.

  • Red Oak HS 4-Year Rate for the Class of 2023 (last state data) was 94%, above the State - 90.3% and Region 10 - 88.5%. We continue to be ahead of both state and region for attendance graduation, and below for dropout rates. Last year ROISD added an end-of-summer graduation for students who finish requirements in summer school.

  • We are trending up in both participation and test results, along with AP exams. We offer prep programs for the SAT.

  • Including the full $97.5M for Shaw MS (although only $80M in bonds have been sold) the current bond debt principal is $149M, not including interest.

  • Timelines will vary greatly for the various projects and some will require working around current school times. We will need full architectural rendering for the Career & Technical Education building, new elementary school, sub-varsity venue, Goodloe renovations, and HS gym addition. High school flooring and playgrounds will have to be scheduled around school use. In general elementary construction can take 16-20 months and the larger CTE facility would take 18-24 months. Goodloe could be completed in some sections and the gym add-on would need to be worked around access to that side of the high school.

  • Bond Proposition A would include upgraded playgrounds at all five existing elementary schools, including Wooden Elementary. They would be renovated to include new ground surfaces that are ADA compliant and new structures with the removal of the old equipment.
